The Marriages of W. Grant McNair - Ida McNair

Marriage(s) Discovered

In researching documents, I was surprised to discover that Grand McNair was twice married.

His first marriage was to Ida Huntley McNair, with whom he helped raised his step-sons.

This 1900 Federal Census shows that Grant and Ida were living in Milwaukee, and Grant's profession was listed as Furniture Salesman.

Ida and Grant eventually separated, and I am still researching timeline details.

Born on March 12th, 1860, Ida's first marriage was to Edward L. Huntley, and they had a son ... Clay.

Ida died on October 30th, 1937, at age 77, and interestingly, her death record states Edward as having been her spouse:

The Paper Trail

The break in discovering Grant and Ida married in 1895 via the Federal Census, allowed me to trackdown the following support materials ...

The DeKalb Chronicle - January 5th, 1895

"The marriage of Mrs. Ida Huntley, of this city, and W. G. McNair, of Broadhead, Wis., was celebrated at the home of the bride Tuesday afternoon at five o'clock, in the presence of a small company of relatives and near friends. Mrs. McNair is well known in DeKalb having lived here nearly all her life and a large number of friends and acquaintances will join in extending best wishes. The groom is a traveling man of agreeable address and is said to be the possessor of considerable ability. They will reside in DeKalb for the present."
