Today's Glossary

In researching at the Historical Society today, and subsequently starting to pull together all the research for posts, it struck me that I needed to catch up on updating the Lap of Legends Glossary

Some terms will be used in posts I'm working on, and one definition supports a previous post (in regards to Grace's Complicated Life).

Perhaps one of the following is new to you ...

Tonsorial Artist = Barber

Tonsorial Artist

A fancy term describing the work of those who give shaves and haircuts. It derives from the Latin verb tondēre, meaning "to shear, clip or crop." (Another descendant, "tonsor," is an archaic word for a barber.)

Italianate

Italian in character or appearance. Italianate was an early form of Victorian architecture.

Cataleptic

Catalepsy is a trancelike state marked by loss of voluntary motion in which the limbs remain in whatever position they are placed. Therefore, cataleptic is a person who has catalepsy.
